Alcester U12s 0 pts, Malvern U12s 63 pts |
A longer than expected holiday break meant that Malvern restarted their season with a visit to Alcester. A verdant pitch on a sunny winter morning made for perfect conditions and the visitors made the most of this with an emphatic nine try win.
It took less than a minute for Malvern to break the home defence and score the first try. The second soon followed from a well worked line out move after Malvern were pushed into touch by some desperate Alcester defending.
Malvern were six tries ahead at the end of the first half with the pack winning everything at the break down to provide countless attacking opportunities. The domination released the Malvern forwards to run at Alcester but with so much wide space to run into, it was left to the backs to place the ball for the try scores.
Alcester started the second half with more purpose; showing great character by keeping their heads up and managing to temporarily hold back the Visitor’s rampant attack. The strength of the Malvern side proved too much and they added three further tries; the second scored by Stan Pritchard after a fine penetrating run.
The match also provided an opportunity for the Malvern kickers to hone their skills and a perfect display from Dan Batty and Ted Hill added an additional eighteen points to the total.
